Open Mind opens doors
Open Mind is a ground-breaking course that provides learners with the professional, academic and personal skills they need. Not only are language skills developed in the course, but also the important 21st-century skills that students need in order to have a better awareness of self and society, to handle the demands of their study and learning and to deal with challenges in their work and career.
The course offers a flexible combination of materials to ensure that students are learning from a variety of sources: content-rich reading texts, speaking and writing workshops, high-quality video, self-study Online Workbooks, and projectable Student's Books.
Description
The Student's Book consists of 12 units with six pages of language sections and two pages of lifeSkills. Each unit includes an Opener, Language Wrap-Up, and Communicative Wrap-Up.
Features
Students learn grammar in four, easy steps. Each grammar section starts with a short text presenting the new language in context. A 'Watch Out!' feature warns students of common learner errors
Vocabulary is taught with an emphasis on the most frequent and useful words for students according to the Macmillan English Dictionaries
Pronunciation sections always include audio and guide students to notice a pattern or rule which will help them pronounce more naturally
openMind does real skills development. Learners develop subskills in reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Skills development sections include a summary of what the subskill is, e.g. skimming or listening for gist, why it's important and how to apply it
The lifeSkills activity recycles language from the unit while giving students the chance to learn a key higher-order skill in the areas of self-direction and learning, organization and planning, information and research, thinking and problem solving, and collaboration
